Michael Pratt

Board Member

Michael Pratt is Chief Communications Officer (CCO) of the National Pharmaceutical Council. NPC serves patients and society with policy-relevant research on the value of patient access to innovative medicines and the importance of scientific advancement.

​

In this role, he leads NPC’s communications, alliances, and policy work and sets the strategic vision for informing a dynamic policy environment by communicating NPC’s research with impact.

​

Mr. Pratt brings over a decade of healthcare, domestic policy, and science-focused communications experience, leading strategic communications and public affairs teams in some of the highest-pressure environments in government and healthcare.

Mr. Pratt served as Chief Communications Officer for Operation Warp Speed (OWS), the federal government’s COVID-19 vaccine and therapeutics accelerator. Reporting directly to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary and the OWS board, he oversaw all elements of the media, stakeholder, legislative, intergovernmental, and private-sector communications leading up to and during the initial COVID-19 vaccine rollout, and worked with the career HHS staff in launching the initial COVID-19 vaccine confidence campaigns.

Mr. Pratt also served for two years at HHS as Director of Strategic Communications and Campaigns, where he led public affairs activities for health policy announcements and was the communications lead for the Secretary’s pharmaceutical policy priorities.

​

Before coming to NPC, he co-led the Washington, DC, office of Real Chemistry, a global AI-enabled healthcare communications agency. He advised health sector executives on communications and public affairs initiatives related to health policy, corporate reputation, environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, and the value of medicines. He led strategic communications campaigns that delivered state policy reforms and were recognized by industry awards.

Previously, he held several leadership positions at the American Enterprise Institute (AEI), a policy think tank in Washington, DC, where he most recently was the Director of Media Relations and Marketing.

Mr. Pratt is a graduate of The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, a member of Phi Beta Kappa, and serves on the board of Youthcast Media Group. He lives with his wife, three daughters, and two dogs outside of Washington, DC.
