Laura Ungar is a medical and science reporter on the global health and science team for The Associated Press, covering these topics for a global audience. She’s been a journalist since 1990, previously working for USA Today, Kaiser Health News, The (Louisville) Courier-Journal, the Delaware News Journal and The Hartford Courant. She has won more than 50 national, regional and local awards covering issues such as maternal mortality, lead in water and the nation’s largest rural HIV outbreak (which led her to co-author a book on the outbreak). She also helped develop, and now helps teach, an international journalism program at the universities of Missouri and Georgia. She lives in Louisville, Kentucky.
